Village of My Berthold and Ullrich Ancestors

INCLUDES INFORMATION ABOUT SURROUNDING VILLAGES

Oberkalbach is a village 10 miles south of Fulda in a beautiful area known as the Rhoen in Kurhessen.  The lovely rolling hills, little forests, brooks, meadows and farmers' fields interspersed with small villages create a picturesque setting.  Because Oberkalbach was the birthplace of my mother, I often visited my grandparents and extended family there as a child before I left my homeland to live in the United States.

Over many years, I have collected information about this village and the surrounding area.  This web site is my way of sharing this information with others whose ancestors came from this part of Germany.

Other villages in this area, mostly south and west of Oberkalbach, are:  Ahlersbach, Altengronau, Bellings, Breitenbach, Breunings, Eichenried, Elm, Gundhelm, Herolz, Heubach, Hintersteinau, Hohenzell,  Hutten, Jossa, Klosterhoefe, Kressenbach, Marjoss, Mittelkalbach, Mottgers, Niederkalbach, Niederzell, Neuengronau, Oberzell, Ramholz, Schluechtern, Schwarzenfels, Seidenroth, Steinau, Sterbfritz, Uttrichshausen, Veitsteinbach, Vollmerz, Wallroth, Weichersbach, Weiperz, and Zuentersbach.  These villages share much of the same history and customs, and many of their residents intermarried, resulting in a similarity of surnames throughout the area.
